Check 'em Out: The Veils

Though the US probably won't see a release of The Veils' second album Nux Vomica until sometime in 2007, the album is nothing short of spectacular. Finn Andrews, son of XTC keyboardist Barry Andrews and mastermind of The Veils, recruited a new collective of musicians for Nux Vomica and has created lively magical sound full of rumbling drums, twinkling piano, and a few banjo solos. Finn's voice has an innate sweet melacholy that reminds one of Jeff Buckley and Richard Ashcroft, with melodies and instrumentation that can be found on your favorite Suede album. Nux Vomica is being released on Rough Trade September 18 in most of Europe, I recommend picking up an import. You can listen to samples from Nux Vomica on their Myspace (be sure to check out "Jesus For The Jugular" and "Advice for Young Mothers To Be").
