It Came From the UK!

I'm still determined to say that some of the best music comes from the UK, either way here are four bands from overseas that have caught my ear this week.

IV THIEVES: (formerly Nic Armstrong & The Thieves) from Nottingham, England.

When Noel Gallagher says "...They'll be one of the biggest bands in Britain. They're pretty special, man...", that definitely hypes up your credibility. And they are pretty great. Be sure to listen to "Catastrophe" , touches of brit pop with nods to Pulp and The Beatles. Their newest LP If We Can't Escape My Pretty is set to be released on September 19 in the UK.

THE FRATELLIS: from Glasgow, Scotland.

It may be awhile before this Scottish rock trio makes their way to Chicago, but if they do it will be worth the wait. Forget about Franz. "Creepin' Up The Backstairs" is one of catchiest songs I've heard this week. Their debut LP Costello Music is set to release in the UK on September 11.

THE VICTORIAN ENGLISH GENTLEMENS CLUB: from Cardiff, UK.

Now for the weirdo, experimental indie rock. T.V.E.G.C. has a raw, lo-fi punk sound that induces seizures of giddiness. Their debut self-titled album comes out next week in the UK. But, you can preview the madness with songs like "Ban the Gin".

LARRIKIN LOVE: from London, UK.

Finally, riffing on the old ska scene the UK was greatly known for, this four piece from London is channeling The Specials with a touch of Dexy's and slapping on their modern touch. Check out the knee-slappin', foot stompin' "Happy As Annie".
