Dead, Death, and Deadly!

Two bands I enjoy call it quits and a rock pioneer dies...

Apparently, a year in the making Sebastian G. and JFK of Death From Above 1979 have officially parted ways. JFK made an announcement on Aug 3, via a memo on their myspace page. They were a great live band, DFA 1979 was a standout performance for me at last year's Intonation Festival, they blew me away reigning a sound on Union Park that seemed inconceivable for two lone men to create. Though they grew apart, the collaboration that was Death From Above 1979 will definitely be missed. JFK is still continuing his work with MSTRKRFT, which is a plus to this minus.

The Deadly Snakes, whose release Porcella was one of my favorites of 2005, have called it quits as well. The members have decided to pursue other interests and we can only wish them the best of luck. It's sad The Deadly Snakes did not receive as much attention as they deserved, Porcella was no doubt the group's finest effort to date. As far as new music ventures, Andre Ethier is set to release a solo album on August 8, Chad Ross and Andrew Gunn are working on a new band. Lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Age of Danger has not announced any new projects, but is focusing on an acting career.

In other sad news, pysch-pop pioneer Arthur Lee died on Thursday at the age of 61. Lee was the lead singer and guitarist of LOVE, best known for their highly revered Forever Changes album.

RIP: ARTHUR LEE (1945-2006)
